Unibroue's Chambly Noire

Chambly NoireLike many of Unibroue’s beers, including Maudite (“Cursed”) and La Fin du Monde (“The End of the World”), Chambly Noire even has a dark story behind its creation. The brew is a salute to the Carugbab-Sallières, a regiment under King Louis XIV, known by their black musketeer hats. In 1665, they were sent to wipe out the Iroquois Indians living along the Richelieu River, and to build forts on its banks to ensure peace and prosperity for the colonies of New France. One of these forts still stands in Chambly - just down the road from the brewery itself.
